Good fiction raises questions and delivers emotional truths.  In writing historical fiction we explore our past lives — which might not actually be past but parallel and accessible.  For me, ships are time machines.  Art, music and books are wormholes that connect us with other lives.

More than five years in the making, my first historical novel Star-Crossed was published by Alfred A. Knopf (a division of Random House) in 2006.  Star-Crossed was chosen by the New York Public Library as one of the Books for the Teen Age — 2007

I wrote Star-Crossed as realistic historical fiction from the perspective of a young woman in the 18th century, in the manner of novels of the period.  The working title was Orion Rising.   My agent at the time was Laura Rennert of Andrea Brown Literary.  My editor at Knopf was Michelle Frey, perhaps better known for editing Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series.

Star-Crossed inspired Surgeon’s Mate; book two of the Patricia MacPherson Nautical Adventure Series, published by Fireship Press in 2011.  Available worldwide in trade paperback and electronic editions.

Coming in 2012:  The re-release of Star-Crossed by Fireship Press!  New title and cover.  Also Yankee Moon, book three of the series.
